In one word...

The senior squad at Heath resumed skills and conditioning training at Whitemans Green last Tuesday going to great lengths to ensure that players were socially distanced during registration and training.

The pitches have been marked out into squares which allow six players to train in each pod using an intense combination of fitness and conditioning and rugby skills.

With four coaches in the senior squad all pods were supervised to make sure that players kept to the gameplan throughout the session. Players sign a comprehensive health questionnaire and confirm current COVID-19 status before each session in order to be able to participate. There were over 40 players at the first session, a combination of the current squad, some very welcome new faces and some old faces returning to improve their health and fitness over the summer months.

Ross Chisholm, Heath’s 1st XV Lead Coach commented:
"It was great to have the squad back together albeit under very different circumstances to the last time we played. The coaching team had spent time road testing our approach to socially distanced training and it proved worthwhile since we were able to work the boys hard despite the new regime. Everyone had fun and we will be back for more this week!”.

New players are welcome at Heath at any time – these return to rugby sessions are running twice weekly at 7pm Tuesdays and Thursdays at Whitemans Green. Anyone interested should go along to join in or email rugby@hhrfc.co.uk

This week the Heath Colts are restarting their back to training regime in a similar controlled environment as Heath manages the return to rugby, gradually across the age groups. It is hoped that the U16s will follow along with other junior age groups over the coming weeks although the younger mini age groups are likely to wait until the next stage of the RFU roadmap is confirmed.
