Update from Mini's Chairman

HHRFC Mini’s weekly update for players, coaches and parents.
Week ending Saturday 25th September.

Mini’s club membership is creeping upwards and I’d like to remind everyone to register online at www.hhrfc.co.uk please ensure that you review your profile and keep it updated i.e. everyone in the mini’s section is a parent/guardian of one or more children, a supporter and could be a coach/admin. All subs need to be paid by end of September please – if you find it difficult to meet the cost please talk to either myself or your age group manager/admin.

Senior Players Required – A plea from Dan Vander U6’s coach - Whilst the mini’s section is one of the largest in the county/SE the senior sides have suffered a gradual decline in numbers over the past two seasons. The club has historically always had a very successful social playing 3rd and 4th XV but in recent years for whatever reason the playing numbers have declined. I am hoping to help co-ordinate availabilities for these two social sides and basically want to know if any of the minis coaches / dads / helpers who fancy the odd game of rugby. The 3rd team is in a lower Sussex league and the 4th team will be playing the odd social friendly game. Whatever level you have played at, we would very much welcome you, whether it be once a month or every week. So if you are interested in helping out and playing the odd game can you please contact Dan dv@hhrfc.co.uk or 07793 662162

Social Committee/Helpers – A plea from Gail Drage (Social Secretary/Bar Manager) & Dan Vander (again!) – We need one or two helpers from each age group to help promote/organise social events for the club, many hands make light work. There are several events planning in the coming season and we need your help please! The coaches and managers put in a tremendous amount of their own time and resource to help make our club the best in Sussex, if you can spare a few hours once a month we’d love to hear from you – please contact Gail Drage gd@hhrfc.co.uk or Dan Vander dv@hhrfc.co.uk

Mini/Youth RFU Registration - The club has now reregister all existing mini’s and youth members with the RFU however, if you’re not registered on the HHRFC web site as a member and paid your subs we will have to assume that you no longer wish to play for the club and will delete your son/daughter from the RFU database. They will not be allowed to represent the club at festivals/tournaments until they are reinstated as a RFU member with HHRFC!

2nd Hand Kit – Clare Christian the U10 manager has kindly agreed to extend the 2nd hand kit sale for the next few months – the sale will take place once a month. If you have any clean, usable kit you no longer need, please could you bring it to the Club House this Sunday or the next home fixture/training session. Clare or myself will be there to collect it. All proceeds go to the Club so we would be very grateful for any donations.

Mid Week Training Wednesday evenings – 5:30 – 6:30pm ATP pitch Downlands Schools, Hassocks. Attendance this week was down from the previous week with 8 x U12’s, 16 x U7-U8 and 10 x U9-U10’s along with coaches from U7 – Simon, U9 – Steve & Peter and U12 – Clive made such a difference. Thank you for your support and I hope to see you all again in the coming weeks and months, we need to maintain and grow these numbers especially in the older age groups if we are to justify these overheads to the club. Use it or lose it as the ref said!
Open Days – promotion at local schools. Two down – one to go! This Sunday is our last formal open days for the club and we need a steady flow of children to maintain squad levels – I’d like to think we’re all proud to part of the HHRFC team. Please promote to all local schools, ask if your child could make a poster, stand up in assembly/tutor to talk to his/her school friends. Networking at the school gate and inside schools – the government is extremely keen to promote the 3 hours of physical activity for all school pupils. If you live outside the HHRFC catchment i.e. Burgess Hill/Lewes/Crawley you might need to consider other local clubs – they don’t like poaching!

Opro Gum Shields – Dentist visit this week Sunday 26th 10am - noon. The club has a policy of no gum shield – no play for players involved in contact games. Whilst boil and bite gum shields offer a level of protection, they not offer the level of comfort and safety a custom made gum shield will. Your local dentist will charge £70 - £80 for a fitting – Opro charges are ½ this. The club benefits from each sale with all the U6/U7 balls this season being supplied by Opro. If you intend to order one please let your team admin manager know and complete the application form in advance, this will enable us to manage the scrum down next week and avoid too much disruption to your training session. So far we have a strong expression of interest from the U9 – U12 and this year we will allocate a ½ hour slot for these age groups. U12 – 10 – 10:30, U11 10:30 – 11, U10 11 – 11:30, U9 11:30 – 12. I will come and collect players from each age group along with parents if required? You will need to complete an application form in advance and the child can present this to the Opro team (coaches don’t need leave the pitch/training session) Application forms are available from team managers in the club house from 9:30.

Parking – the old chestnut! Nobody parked on the road/pavement last Sunday – hurrah!
Beech Farm field car park is nearly completed and we await the council to sign it off (they need to ensure visibility splays in either direction) but it should available early October? Fortunately we have the use of the training area in front of the club which can easily accommodate all the cars for mini’s and juniors who attend on Sunday – assuming that we park considerately i.e. facing east/west and where directed. Thank you to the parents that helped out last week and others who volunteered to help out this week. Please do not park on the road/verge/pavement as it prevents the free flow of traffic in and out of the site and is major safety issue for you and other members of the club and general public.

Additional Fixtures – Saracens Cup – Quins Etihad Cup – Wasps/Quins/Saracens Land Rover Cup. Your team manager needs to know your availability for the these events to organise teams/transport and ensure you have enough players/coaches well in advance – if you haven’t done so already could you please advise.
