A trip to London Cornish saw an in form Heath side score five tries, take five league points and secure a well deserved five timer to move another place up the league table. Yet another wet Saturday saw tricky conditions for both sides but a confident Heath took it in their stride despite missing a number of players from the previous week's win.
Heath started brightly with their forwards dominant at the breakdown and suffocating the opposition. An attack down the left wing went deep into opposition territory and from a good position on the Cornish 5 metre line backrow Josh Salisbury picked and went through a hole for the opening try and 0-5. Cornish came straight back from the kick off and after 2 penalties were kicked to the corner managed to drive over for 7-5.
A few minutes later and against the run of play the home side were in again after a long miss pass from the Cornish centre bypassed the Heath defence for their wing to stroll in for 14-5.
Heath reclaimed the ball from the kick off and worked their way up to the Cornish 22. As the home defence fanned out Player of the Match Salisbury went straight through the ruck and galloped clear for his second score which Tom Wharton converted for 14-12.
Heath were now firmly in the ascendancy and quick ball off the top of a line out on the opposition 10 metre line was fired into midfield for number 8 Connor Mullins to make a line break through the Cornish defenders before offloading to the supporting outside centre Charlie Bennett to fly away from the defence and score under the posts. Again Wharton added the extras for 14-19.
More Heath pressure saw them battering away at the Cornish line but poor decision making and some handling errors meant they couldn't convert. Repeated penalties eventually told and when a tap penalty failed to get over the whitewash the ball was spun wide through the hands for full back Evan Herbert to go over for the fourth try bonus point and a score of 14-24.
Heath didn't deal with the restart and a misplaced pass on their own 22 conceded a scrum from which Cornish broke right and scored to reduce the deficit to 19-24 which is how it stayed until half-time.
The second half was a strange affair with Heath knocking on the door of the Cornish try line but more poor handling or a lack of composure in the opposition red zone meant they failed to add to their lead. On another day Heath could have accumulated a big total but were left scratching their heads as to how to put the game to bed. The Heath scrum was well on top and created a good platform all afternoon and after further pressure Heath were finally able to get close to the line where Mullins was able to crash through tacklers for the decisive fifth try of the day converted by Wharton.
At 19-31 Heath had further chances to score but after losing a man to the bin eventually allowed Cornish in for a consolation try to leave a final score of 26-31.
The five game winning streak has seen Heath climb the table to the lofty position of 4th in the table which was not something that looked likely after their initial three games of the season.
Next weekend sees Heath back on home soil at Whitemans Green to face Old Rutlishians.
