The Heath teams brought their successful seasons to a close with a trip to the Worthing International 10s tournament over the Bank Holiday weekend. The collaboration between Heath and Uckfield continues to go from strength to strength, and the weekend was a real celebration of a hugely successful partnership.
Under 12Gs
The Moo-Moos had a brilliant time at the Worthing RFC Girls Rugby Festival last weekend — the perfect way for our U12 girls to round off an excellent season.
Day one saw the team take on five tough pool matches against strong opposition from across the country. With short match times, the girls needed to start fast and play hard from the first whistle — and they did exactly that, opening their campaign with two impressive wins.
Their next challenge came against Dartford Valley, a hugely physical and well-drilled side. After conceding an early try, the girls showed great character to battle back and secure a well-earned draw - a fantastic result against quality opposition.
Returning on Sunday morning, the Moo Moos started strongly once again with an excellent win over a combative Welwyn side. Next up were Liverpool St Helens, one of the standout teams of the tournament. Thanks to some incredibly determined defending, neither side could find a breakthrough, with the match finishing 0–0, a result that saw the Moo Moos finish top of their group.
In front of a raucous crowd, the Moo Moos faced a strong Richmond/Ealing combined side in the final. After a tightly contested opening, the girls found another gear, scoring three quick tries to take control of the match and secure the cup in style.
All in all, it was a memorable weekend filled with sunshine, smiles, and some outstanding rugby - a fitting end to a fantastic season.
U14s reach pulsating final
The Uckfield Heath combined U14s have had a hugely successful season that has seen them crowned Sussex Cup champions, winning 16 out of 17 of their 15-a-side games plus a further 31 out of 37 festival matches, scoring 306 tries and playing some beautiful rugby along the way.
While a core group of the girls have played together for four seasons now, they have welcomed new players at the start of their rugby journeys each season, continuing to gel beautifully as a squad while producing rugby of increasing quality and maturity.
The end of season trip to Worthing gave the girls the opportunity to test themselves against some of the strongest teams in the country. In spite of injuries to several key players, the squad was packed with skill, speed and strength and the girls were keen to follow up their victory in the U12Gs competition two years previously with another strong set of performances.
A strong day one saw them record wins against Chippenham, Bedford Blues, Irons Park and Richmond/Ruislip to qualify for the top pool in the second stage the 5 strongest teams out of 25. A tight 7-0 win against Havant on Saturday evening set them up for three huge games on the Sunday.
A 5-5 draw with the superb Welwyn, who the girls faced in the U12 final two years previously, was followed by a stirring 17-0 win against BCW Sabres from Kent.
This meant their final match against Surrey Champions Barnes, who they have faced twice before in recent years with nothing to separate the sides, effectively became the tournament final.
The intense 10 minute game format rewarded the fast starters, and Barnes opened the scoring with a converted try after 3 minutes.
The Uckfield Heath girls had possession for nearly all of the rest of the match, and were camped in the opposition 22 for most of it, but the Barnes defence held firm to record a deserved 7-0 win to take the trophy.
Congratulations to the girls for a fantastic season and - with most heading up to U16Gs next year - we cannot wait to see how the squad continues to develop and perform.

While the majority of our older girls were deep in GCSE revision, the squad was brilliantly represented by four members of the Heath squad who teamed up with Pulborough for the weekend. They put in some excellent performances to come third in their pool and narrowly miss out on the finals.
