After a poor performance the previous week, Heath really needed to bounce back to shore up their top half of the table position.
On a sticky pitch Heath were able to assert control through an early try from skipper Jack Lucas who bullied his way through defenders for a try. Tom Wharton converted for 7-0. Ten minutes later and Heath scored again after a penalty to the corner was spun wide right for full back Cam Reed to go over in the corner for another converted try.
Wimbledonians fought back and managed two tries before half time to pull the score back to 14-12 at the break.
The second half was a different matter with Heath continuing to impose their play, grab the momentum and score five unanswered tries.
Good pressure from the Heath pack created a platform in the visitors red zone from where the ball was moved quickly to the left wing for Matt Cains to go over. Wharton added the two extras for 21-12.
Possession from Old Wimbledonians was laboured in midfield and when Lucas charged down a clearing kick on the half way line, he gathered the ball and sped in for a converted try under the posts, making the score 28-12 plus a bonus point. Lucas scored his hat trick when taking a short ball under the posts from a ruck for 35 -12 and a short while late more Heath possession in their opponents’ 22 saw Charlie Bennett take an inside ball to burst through tacklers to take the score out to 40 -12 for the home side.
Perhaps appropriately it was captain Lucas who capped off a Player of the Match performance with his fourth try. A clearance kick from the visitors was fielded on their own 10 metre line by Heath and run back with interest with some great interplay seeing Lucas crash over in the corner for a final score of 45-12.
This was a far more complete performance than last week's away loss and sees Heath back up to fifth in the table. The next fixture sees an all Sussex affair with Heath travelling to Eastbourne on Saturday 21st March.
The Rams were also in action but with a somewhat depleted squad went down 41-7 away to Crowborough 2s. With it being a Six Nations weekend, the Clubhouse was full of supporters before, during and after the match making the most of live rugby
on the pitch and on the magnificent multi-screens in the fabulous new Whitemans Green Sports Club.
