Heath end the season in style

Heath end the season in style

Haywards Heath 66 Trinity 34

After a number of near misses in recent weeks where they have managed to lose games from winning positions, Heath senior men’s squad were determined to close out the league season with a performance over the full eighty minutes against third placed Trinity.

A bright start from Heath saw them take an early lead with a try from Josh Pratt and although Trinity pulled one back, another score from captain Jack Lucas and a Tom Wharton penalty saw the home side with a 17- 8 advantage. However two tries from Trinity and a yellow card for Heath saw the visitors leading at the break by 17-22.

The second half was an entirely different story with Heath running riot and scoring another seven tries. Two tries for scrum half Evan Herbert and additional scores from Chris Neill, Connor Mullins, Tom Wharton, Dan Jarman and Josh Salisbury saw Heath stretch away for a decisive victory which was given added gloss by Wharton nailing all of the conversions for a final score of 66 -34.

Heath had been threatening a win of this nature for a few months and quick ball from their abrasive rucking combined with a willingness to attack from all parts of the pitch saw them dominate the second half and post a statement victory to finish in eighth place in Surrey/Sussex Counties 1 division.

Although that is the season concluded for the 1st team next weekend sees the Rams heading to finals day at Eastbourne where they will face Hellingly in the final of the Sussex plate.
