The experience of Heath’s youngest rugby players continued to grow this weekend when Heath Under 8s took two sides to a sunny but blustery Eastbourne.

The Red Team played really well and their games were generally close in pool D, which was a great effort as a few players in the team were new to festivals and some had only been playing rugby for a few weeks. The Reds finished third in their pool losing 6-4 to Hove and 4-3 to Lewes, drawing 3-3 with Uckfield and beating local rivals Burgess Hill 4-2.

The Blacks competed in a very closely contested Pool C running out overall winners on try difference. Their ferocity in tagging on the day was the difference, pushing other sides back and forcing mistakes which inevitably led to turnovers and the opportunity to take full advantage of the possession with some excellent running tries. The Blacks lost to the runners up Eastbourne 3-2, winning all other games against Lewes 7-2, Crowborough 6-2 and Heathfield & Waldren Spitfires 5-0. There were some very tired legs leaving the pitch after the last match but some very happy faces who enjoyed this early season festival experience in the autumn sunshine.
