Vets win silverware away against Worthing

As a warm-up to the England v Ireland 6nations fixture at the Allianz and playing away at Worthing RFC, Shoreham faced East Grinstead in the Vets Plate final with Heath Vets taking on home side Worthing Vets on the main pitch in the Vets Cup final.

With a raucous crowd cheering on both sides, Heath took a very early advantage with a try in the first minute. This spurred Worthing into life who spent most of the first half camped in Heath's half but the final touch let them down. Despite winning numerous penalties, which saw a 'Team Yellow' for Jack Bull, the Heath defence held firm. However it was only a matter of time before the home side Worthing got on the scoreboard and 5-22 half-time score flattered the visitors.

The second half was a more one-sided affair and, despite never actually having all played together before, Heath strung a number of excellent plays together along with resilient defence to score 23 unanswered points and finish the game 5-55. The game was played in the best of spirits and both teams retired to the clubhouse to celebrate community rugby at its best.
