Heath Women warm up for Sussex Shield Final with convincing win

Haywards Heath Hellhounds Women 57 – Crowborough Women 12

The Heath women’s rugby team provided the early entertainment last Saturday in front of a large crowd with a display of open running rugby. Crowborough were a little depleted on numbers and had to borrow a few to ensure the match went ahead.

Heath were the quicker out of the blocks and showed great intent setting up numerous quick rucks, punching holes in the Crowborough defense resulting in two quick successive tries. With the opposition struggling to gain any real momentum it was Heath who dominated the first half scoring two more tries without reply. Crowborough edged back into the game scoring late in the first half with the scores at 24-5 to Heath at half time.

The second half saw Heath again edging the possession and territory battle resulting in two further scores. Both teams should be commended on their determination in both attack and defense, with Heath particularly showing the benefit of recent training sessions based on defensive patterns.

With the strong sunshine and pace of the game taking its toll on all the players the final 15 minutes saw the game open right up with Heath’s Hannah Kingsmill scoring her fourth try of the day out wide. Crowborough finished proceedings with a well-deserved try under the posts. Heath took the spoils on the day 57-12 in this friendly match enjoyed by all involved.

The women play their last match of the season on Saturday 9 May in the Sussex Shield final against Hove 2s at Burgess Hill RFC Kick off 11am and all support welcome.
