Heath comfortably beat a spirited Edenbridge

Heath returned to League action on Sunday afternoon, confident from last weekend's victory over Horsham to face an Edenbridge side struggling to find consistency and numbers. With all Heath boys available the coaches had to make some tough selections that left 4 regulars out of the Mach day squad. What a joy to see that the squad were unfazed and started well, Oliver Owens going over after just 7 minutes following some good forward work. William Goodwin converted and Heath were 7-0 up.

The restart returned possession to Heath and the forwards again delivered, combining well with the backs before Liam Macaulay stepped his way through out wide to go 12-0 after 13 minutes. More of the same with the pack keeping the ball alive and going through the phases before fly-half Christian Streater's mazy run was held up inches short of the line allowing Alfie Bedford an excellent poachers' try on the 20 minute mark. A few minutes later it was Oliver Owens turn for his second, beating Mitchel Day and the Edenbridge defence to touch down after some fancy footballing skills. Edenbridge managed to secure some ball and prevented Heath from adding to the score line so the first half ended 22-0.

Half time saw the subs get their chance Thomas Wharton, fresh from county duties last weekend, wasted no time by going over after 2 minutes with a conversion for William Goodwin, 29-0. Blink and you would have missed it, another restart and a hat trick for Oliver Owens 34-0. Anyone who did miss it got the chance to see it again as Owens bagged his 4th on 42 minutes 39-0.

Heath were running riot and while it was all a bit loose and there was some poor decision making, the waves of support meant that Heath were able a to pour through Edenbridges valiant but weakening defence. William Goodwin was next on the scoresheet following great quick hands from the backs, converted to make it 46-0. Goodwin got his second immediately after with a sprint down the left wing again converted 53-0. With the option to call the game Edenbridge showed great resolve and elected to play on. Alas Tom Wharton was given some space and showed the still trying Edenbridge defence a clean pair of heels to score his second which Christian Streater duly converted.

Not to be overshadowed by the backs Adam Southern managed to burst through the middle of a ruck and run 75 meters to chalk up a try for the forwards, again converted by Streater. 69-0. Thomas Wharton showed his pace again to bag his hat trick in the left corner - excellent try but the cheeky dropped conversion by Streater was possibly better! 74-0 against a spirited but outclassed Edenbridge.

Heath will need to be tighter in the coming fixtures but overall a great team display. Man of the match goes to Liam Macaulay who tackled brilliantly, ran straight and hard and distributed well.
